Single and having a hard time meeting people you'd like to date? Time to change your tactics!

Instead of going to bars and restaurants looking for that special someone, get a helping hand by joining the ranks of the online dating community. According to Online Dating Magazine, more than 20 million people visit at least one online dating service a month.

Before you begin, however, take some time to consider what you know-- and more importantly what you don't know-- about online dating before jumping headfirst into the adult online dating pool.  The following summary of a recent survey of those who do actively participate in online dating reveals some very interesting and useful information regarding the opinions, trends, and preferences of adult online daters.

A recent report from internet marketing research firm Vizu Corporation (www.vizuanswers.com) set out to determine just how much online dating permeates our social lives. The report reveals some rather surprising trends about the online dating community, as well as shedding some interesting light on just exactly who is dating online as well as what they are looking for in the profiles of their potential special someones.

This is Part One of a Multi-Part Summary on the results of the recent survey referenced above.

Who Is Using Online Dating Services?

Apparently about half of the online community surveyed in the report admitted to having either used an online dating service (20%) or at least perused the listings of other braver souls searching for their matches (29%).  Despite nearly half of the online users who admit to using or persuing online dating services, nearly three-quarters of the respondents said that they still believe that that there is a social stigma attached to online dating, which helps explain why just over half (51%) deny ever using online dating services or viewing personals. However, some 64% of respondents stated that if they were successful in finding a significant other through online dating, they would openly admit and reveal how they met their match, despite any percieved embarassment.
