speed dating, matchmaking service

I remember watching a special on the news about a new form of speed dating. This one was unique enough kind of speed dating to make the news because it relied on the concept of "Love at First Site".

Although this form of attraction is certainly debatable (Who hasn't heard the question: "Do you believe in love at first site?"), this speed dating service takes advantage of "Love at First Site" by making people stare at each other. Yes, it's a little like one of those staring contests; only now, if you win you get to have a date. So, it's a mixture of a staring contest and a dating game.

This is how speed dating works, everyone stands in line and for a few seconds, you have to stare intensely into that person's eyes. Then people switch and move down the line and the process repeats itself. Some people claim that they can feel a certain "spark" with a person of interest.

The creators of this form of speed dating basically took this idea from salsa dancing. In salsa dancing, they found that their best dances were with people who looked into their eyes in a certain way. This matchmaking service attempts to replicate the salsa dancing eye contact through keeping the eye contact part and throwing out the salsa dancing.

In the end, I think these people should just enroll in a salsa dancing class. What the creators are forgetting are that this kind of eye contact comes from activity which comes with adrenaline rushes. It's during this kind of rush and body contact that naturally allows people to become attracted to one another and have that special chemistry, even for just a moment. As a dancer, I can tell you that some people have it and some people don't.
